THE 5 COMMANDMENTS OF SOCIAL MEDIA IN 2021
What a remarkable year it has been, so many huge highs and devastating lows as the pandemic swept the world and brought a lot of pain but also a surprising number of opportunities.
At Tiny Wizard we’ve had mostly positive challenges as the business has grown - and whilst that brings its own stress and difficulties we are full of gratitude that the news for us has been generally good.
One challenge we have as we grow, is to break into new industries and the food and drink industry is a huge attraction. It’s the UK's largest manufacturing sector, contributing £28.2bn to the economy annually and employing 400,000 people, but given all that has gone on this year we wanted to start by giving.
So we have started to run our very first competition and we call it The Alchemists’ Workshop.
The plan is to gain engagement with a subset of the food industry that we love - Hot Sauce (there are already 5 bottles in our office fridge, of varying types and brands).
For The Alchemists’ Workshop first ever competition the hashtag #hotmagic has been born and entrants have nothing to lose and everything to gain. There’s no fee to enter, no need to send samples (though we’d love it if you did!) and a prize that could be worth over £5k
Whilst doing our research into the Hot Sauce market, we couldn’t help but notice the varying degrees to which companies are using social media. Some are absolutely smashing it, whilst others - not so much.
In the spirit of giving, we thought we’d share our 5 Commandments of Social Media in 2021, so without further ado, here they are;
-
Thou shalt have a plan!
Why do you want a social media presence? First, figure out your goal, Is it for increasing brand awareness? Improving Customer service? Or a slightly more difficult one increasing revenues? Make a plan. It doesn’t have to be set in stone, you can flex it, but you must have a plan.
2. Thou Shalt Always be Authentic.
What people trust more than anything these days is authenticity, people are more likely to buy from a brand they feel a connection to, whether that is because you use your personality as a selling point or you are a completely open book when it comes to production and ingredients. Make sure you include something of yourself, people trust and buy from other people.
3. Thou Shalt Think before you jump
It can be tempting to jump on trends in the hopes that you can steal some of the engagement that the trend is generating, but you should always make sure you are staying true to your brand voice and guidelines.
4. Thou Shalt Treat each Social Media platform as an Opportunity
Not all platforms are built the same, and as you probably know it’s all about working round the ever changing algorithm, so make sure you are tailoring your social media content to the specific platform, you are most likely going to be targeting another audience as well so make sure to take that into consideration!
5. Thou Shalt always use dope social media assists
Images and video are key to creating a lot of engagement on most social media platforms so it is important to make sure they look great, and in keeping with your brand guidelines. People will start to recognise your assets and that will help to retain your audience.
